PSI Scan
Creating Psychological Safety in Your Team for Learning, Innovation and Growth
The Psychological Safety Index™ Scan is a powerful tool to measure and enhance psychological safety in your team. Developed in collaboration with Amy C. Edmondson of Harvard Business School, the scan leverages over 20 years of research and learning from thought leaders and experienced professionals.
How it works
1. Introduction | 1 hour x 2
A certified practitioner introduces the PSI Scan to the leader (one hour) and team (one hour) to prepare the team for participation.
2. Survey | 5-7 minutes
An anonymous online survey is completed by the team, asking seven questions designed to assess team dynamics across four domains.
3. Debrief | 4 hours
An in-person facilitated debrief explores the team result and current level of psychological safety. This powerful moment includes solution ideation.

Psychological safety and mindfulness are related concepts, but they have distinct differences.
Psychological safety refers to the work environment where individuals feel safe to express their thoughts, opinions, and ideas without fear of negative consequences like humiliation or punishment. It focuses on creating a culture where employees can openly share their concerns, take risks, and be vulnerable without being judged or criticized. The primary goal of psychological safety is to promote open communication, teamwork, and collaboration within a group or organization.
Mindfulness is a mental state or practice that involves being fully present in the moment and aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment. It emphasizes self-awareness, self-regulation, and the ability to manage stress, improve focus, and enhance overall well-being. Mindfulness can be practiced individually through meditation and other techniques, and it helps individuals reduce anxiety, increase emotional intelligence, and make better decisions

Psychological safety is linked to many aspects of the team's profile such as engagement, health levels, innovation, or productivity. Should you recognize the need to improve any of these aspects, the PSI Scan will help to identify the underlying causes and inspire the team to engage in productive discussion.

The PSI Scan is designed to strike a balance between fostering psychological safety and maintaining high standards of accountability. Psychological safety doesn't mean that we avoid difficult conversations or lower our expectations. Instead, it creates a foundation of trust where team members feel safe to express ideas, voice concerns, and take risks without fear of negative consequences. This trust actually enhances accountability because it encourages open and honest communication about performance and expectations. By addressing underlying issues and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, the PSI Scan helps teams achieve their KPIs more effectively while also promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
